Officials say they've taken measures to prevent spreading of the coronavirus at the event, including requiring participants to undergo PCR testing. About 400 companies and groups from Japan are taking part. The Japan External Trade Organization, or JETRO, has set up a booth displaying items such as sake produced in various parts of Japan.

Visitors can sample goods offered by salespeople including one from a food company in Wakayama Prefecture, western Japan, that sells Japanese plum liqueur. He said exports of the drink to China have grown each year, so the market there remains attractive. He added that his company wants to increase its sales in the country through local partners. The expo started in 2018 amid China-US trade friction, after being put forward by President Xi Jinping. This year's event opened two days after the US presidential election. The expo is seen as aimed at emphasizing China's stance of opening its market amid concerns that the Chinese-US trade and other disputes might be prolonged.
